Chris Lewis – Professional Photographer in the Lake District
“You don't take a photograph, you make it.” – Ansel Adams
I'm Chris Lewis, a professional photographer based in Cumbria, on the edge of the beautiful Lake District National Park. With a lifelong passion for photography and a deep appreciation for the landscapes around me, I combine years of experience with a creative eye to capture the character, atmosphere and beauty of the world around us.
A Lifelong Passion for Photography
My journey into photography began when I was around 11 years old, after rescuing an old Kodak Brownie Starlet camera from a jumble sale. Before long, I was asking for rolls of film for Christmas. I was hooked, and my fascination with photography has stayed with me ever since.
I was particularly inspired by the work of Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and Dorothea Lange. Their powerful, thought-provoking black-and-white photographs opened my eyes to the beauty of light, texture, contrast and composition. Their influence helped shape my photographic style and fostered my enduring love of monochrome photography.
From London to the Lake District
After leaving school, I trained professionally as a photographer before beginning my career in London. Working with the large, heavy film cameras of the time gave me a strong technical foundation and an appreciation for the craft behind every image. Today, I welcome the creative possibilities and flexibility offered by modern digital photography, while retaining the principles that first inspired me.
Professional Photography in Cumbria
Today, my family and I are fortunate to call Cumbria home, living on the doorstep of the Lake District National Park. This remarkable part of the world provides endless inspiration, from dramatic mountain scenery and tranquil lakes to changing weather, beautiful light and the quieter details of the natural landscape.
Alongside my personal interest in landscape photography, I have built a successful business as a commercial photographer. I love working with clients to create thoughtful, high-quality images that communicate their story, showcase their work and bring their ideas to life.
Whether I'm exploring the landscapes of the Lake District with my camera or creating images for a commercial project, photography remains a passion that continues to inspire me every day.
